“Don’t let them die!!!” This ardent email plea for the lives of our cucumber plants comes in from Dov, away for most of the summer. The garden is our shared project. He knows I get preoccupied with work, and that he needs to do some long-distance gardening/nudging! “We need something to keep the cucs up!! There should be green grids in the garage somewhere.”
Taking his advice, I put up the grids for the cucumber vines to climb, but it seems like they are thriving. It’s a real surprise to find all these cucs hiding under the leaves. There is a definite contrast between my work and my garden: after concentrating on perfection in minute details, moving stuff around an inch at a time on set; I just let my garden go kind of wild!
To reward my hard work, Marty fires up his big green egg, and grills chicken with oregano and Thai basil from the garden. It’s delicious and so are the surprise cucumbers. Both put a smile on my face.
Lisa and her assistant Suzanne put me up to this veggie masquerade. We get punchy in the studio after days of serious, intense concentration on photographing chicken recipes!
